Portwell Has Joined The Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (sff-sig)

Fremont, California – April 14, 2008 -- American Portwell Technology, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market, announced today that it has joined the Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (SFF-SIG), an industry collaboration of board, system, and component manufacturers devoted to reducing the size and power consumption by using advanced technologies. Portwell brings to the group a large amount of experience and knowledge from many applications and market segments including IPC, HMI, POS, Communication Appliance, Medical Healthcare, Mobile Kiosk, Entry-Gaming, Digital Signage and In-Vehicle Infotainment.

The UMPC market has driven the development of advanced low power micro-architectures, such as the core of Intels new Atom™ processor family and accompanying high-integration single-chip chipset. In order to take the fullest advantage of these devices, new expansion interfaces are necessary. The SFF-SIG, with the help of Portwell and other innovators, is defining the SUMIT™ interface with UMPC processors and chipsets in mind. SUMIT will facilitate the rapid deployment of applications based on Atom by providing building blocks in the form of a consolidated I/O ecosystem, from additional LAN ports to analog data acquisition to solid state storage.
