factor single board computer, Rhodeus, based on the AMD LX800 processor. Rhodeus is a superior choice for low cost/high volume applications with mid-range performance requirements, such as medical equipment, process control and instrumentation.

“Diamond is pleased to introduce its latest low-cost single board computer. We believe that designers who have demanding applications yet need to save space and lower costs will find Rhodeus very attractive,” said Jonathan Miller, President of Diamond Systems. “With Rhodeus, developers get the power of an LX800 processor and a broad selection of on-board I/O, all in a compact PC/104 form factor.”

Rhodeus utilizes the AMD Geode LX800 processor operating fan-less at 500MHz. It includes 64KB L1 cache and 128KB L2 cache. The board supports up to 1GB of DDR SDRAM using an SO-DIMM socket. It provides both IDE and CompactFlash mass storage options. Video consists of an integrated VGA controller with 2D acceleration and support for high resolution CRT and LCD displays. A full set of I/O is provided to support application requirements, including Ethernet, UDMA-33 IDE, 2 USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232 and one RS-232/422/485 serial port, floppy, legacy keyboard and mouse, and programmable watchdog timer. Power consumption is 5W typical, and operating temperature is 0-60oC. The board includes the PC/104 ISA bus for additional I/O expansion.

The Rhodeus single board computer is available immediately. Prices start under $350 in small quantities for models with 256MB of DDR SDRAM. Volume discounts are available.
